Title: “Scone”

SCONE was born to create functional elements that are simple but refined, with a singular emphasis on design, craftsmanship and sustainability.

It was founded by the Spanish designer Pablo Vismanos in 2020, when he started experimenting with concrete from the shed of his house, using recycled elements as moulds.

The products are characterized by their delicate and elegant aesthetic, with organic colours chosen to blend harmoniously into the environment.

The material used offers a simple elegance that respects the environment. The products are made up of pigmented concrete and recycled plastic collected on the coast of Menorca.

The entire manufacturing process is precise and unpredictable, creating organic surface patterns and different textural qualities, making each piece unique.

After winning The Reynolds Foundation grant, the photographer Biel Moreno travelled in 2015 to the United States equipped with a medium format film camera. For three months he drove through the vastness of the American West, California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and the fertile states of the Mississippi River, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Biel Moreno's Anyplace is Paradise navigates the iconic American landscape capturing a mix of landscape, individuals and interiors. The project combines a documentary style with a poetic narrative.

This painting is part of the “Lockdown Ladies” series, a body of work born during the very first Covid lockdown as a result of the lack of material: canvases, colors ... and the impossibility of buying it. It was born of being forced to paint with the only material he had, and on canvases already painted, of which shapes and colors were left and ended up integrated into the new pieces as witnesses of the paintings that they once were. “Sometimes a blocked path forces us to take another path in which we discover things that we would never have discovered otherwise. And, in a way, that's how we all are; we build ourselves on our own past, and with the means at our disposal, trying to outline the best possible version of ourselves”, he says.

Jorge is a Basque artist living in Menorca since 2010. He’s involved in many artistic and cultural projects, and besides his work as a painter he’s also co-founder of CREAE Espacio Creativo, an Art school in Mahón where he also teaches, and Menorca Pulsar and International workshops project.
He’s a member of the Reynolds Foundation scholarship jury.

Title: “Mar de Fons” (groundswell) Surface that can look quiet but there is movement underneath.

From one of my icons, the old salt, -my alter ego-, merged this female hidden side, that co exist in major or minor evidence inside us. From a tanned guy to a delicated femenine body, minds in bodys where there is a big ocean of space to be included. Suggestive possition but with a self-confident attitude. A boat across in the horizon could mean the time needed in all processes until arriving. Square greek border co exist with a curved arabesque. Also, powerfull merged words from an old work hidden under the actual and definitive result, -will be-, gives a resolution force message. This metaphor is in support to all minorities of both genders and their differential aspects who still figthing to normalize their situations.

Worked like a sketch, soft blue and rose colors decided, executed with charcoal, acrylic and spary paint covering an old work on aluminium.

Title: “100 Greatest Menorcans”

This is the first year’s output from a 5-year project with the Escola d’Art de Menorca (EAM) to research and create a record of the 100 Greatest Menorcans. Miquel Àngel Limón Pons produced a list of those who he judged to constitute the ‘100 Greatest’, and in the academic year 2018/19, the printing and engraving class at EAM, under teacher Emili Cano, produced woodcut portraits (and an accompanying script) for 20 of the ‘Ilustres’. It is intended to bind sets of these prints into a limited book edition.

The overall project has been delayed by the Covid pandemic, but a second batch of 20 prints are in progress. It is hoped to produce the third batch (in a different form) in 2022/23.

Los 100 Menorquines Ilustres

Este es el resultado del primer año de un proyecto de 5 años con la Escola d'Art de Menorca (EAM) para investigar y crear un registro de 100 menorquines ilustres. Miquel Àngel Limón Pons elaboró una lista de los que consideró que constituían los 100 más relevantes, y en el curso académico 2018/19, la clase de grabado de la EAM, a cargo del profesor Emili Cano, produjo retratos grabados en madera (y un acompañamiento guión) para 20 de las 'Ilustres'.

Se pretende encuadernar estas impresiones en una edición de libro limitada. El proyecto general se ha retrasado por la pandemia de Covid, pero un segundo lote de 20 copias está en progreso. Se espera producir el tercer lote (en una forma diferente) en 2022/23.

Walter Benjamin afirma que el concepte d’història només apareix per mitjà de la memòria quan hi ha un perill que, de sobte, aflora novament a la superfície del present. El paisatge verge de la Menorca Reserva de Biosfera, preservat gràcies a l’activisme ecologista dels illencs, continua sotmès a l’amenaça constant de la febre constructora dels especuladors.

Walter Benjamin afirma que el concepto de historia solo aparece por medio de la memoria cuando, de pronto, hay un peligro que aflora nuevamente a la superficie del presente. El paisaje virgen de la Menorca Reserva de Biosfera, preservado gracias al activismo ecologista de los isleños, continúa sometido a la amenaza constante de la fiebre constructora de los especuladores.

Walter Benjamin said that history is about seizing hold of a memory as it flashes up at a moment of danger. The unspoilt landscape in the Menorca Biosphere Reserve—saved from developers by local environmental activists—remains under the constant threat of fresh attacks from rapacious real estate speculators.

Title: “Carrer Isabel II Number 15 and 17”

The creativity of the architects who were responsible for the reformation of the two derelict buildings – C/. Isabel II numbers 15 and 17 – that now form ‘Casa Reynolds’ are visible here and elsewhere in the Foundation for all to see. These three photographic reproductions are from the extensive collection of drawings and documentation that formed part of the process. The lower one shows the buildings as they were before Carrer San Cristoforo (later renamed Isabel II) was re-aligned in 1839, and when the bridge over the road still existed. The upper one is about how the form and shapes and spaces were created, and the middle one reminds us of the precision and detail that is necessary to produce memorable buildings.

La creatividad de los arquitectos que se encargaron de la reforma de los dos edificios en ruinas – C/. Los números 15 y 17 de Isabel II, que ahora forman 'Casa Reynolds', son visibles aquí y en otros lugares de la Fundación para que todos los vean. Estas tres reproducciones fotográficas pertenecen a la extensa colección de dibujos y documentación que formó parte del proceso. La inferior muestra los edificios tal y como eran antes de la remodelación de la calle San Cristoforo (luego rebautizada como Isabel II) en 1839, y cuando aún existía el puente sobre la calzada. El de arriba trata sobre cómo se crearon la forma, las formas y los espacios, y el del medio nos recuerda la precisión y el detalle que son necesarios para producir edificios memorables.

By applying colour in layers, blocking out shapes and colour quickly, much how I draw digitally, I can work on the atmosphere and textures evolving the original 2D digital drawing into a painted scene.

Una sirena de mirada pensativa surca tranquila su mar mientras escucha el canto lunar. La luna se ha sumergido en su mundo para traerle las melodías del cielo. Ella la toca y siente su conexión. Nada con sus brazos abiertos como una heroína con su capa flotante, libre y plena, es su caracola que recoge todos los sonidos y la protege de toda amenaza. Su cabello es rojizo, sus ojos azules como el agua y su traje verde de algas y escamas plateadas. Va acompañada de un banco de peces y a su paso va quedando el rastro burbujeante de su música.

La obra parte de un dibujo inicial que hice el 19/02/2008. En 2011 decido materializarla en lienzo mediante la técnica del acrílico. Con la propuesta realizada el 25 de mayo de 2022 por Richard Reynolds de participar en la exposición del 20 aniversario de su fundación (TRF, Menorca, 24 de septiembre de 2022) por haber sido artista colaboradora de la fundación desde 2002, me planteo en retomar esta obra que quedó inacabada y darle su aspecto final muy acorde con mi estilo figurativo. Aparece la mujer con el pelo rojo, la figura de la sirena o mujer híbrido y la luna, elementos recurrentes en mis obras. Hay una evocación al personaje de la sirena que representé en mi faceta de bailarina, junto a mi hermana gemela Nadir en el videoclip de Inmune “Sirenas” del año 2018, representando el collar que utilizamos así como el maquillaje. Actualmente en 2022 lo hemos interpretado en tres ocasiones.

Entre los años 2007 y 2009 asistí a clases de pintura con los profesores Fulgenci Torrents (Genci), y Rafael De la Rica, bastante reconocidos en la isla. Ambos artistas comparten el gusto por lo clásico y por la figura, y los dos practican un estilo realista, inspirado en la naturaleza. De ellos aprendí el amor por el detalle y sus clases supusieron momentos de calma y de búsqueda a la vez.

Pintar, para mí, es un acto muy íntimo, que precisa concentración y consciencia. "Estar presente", como suele decirse, y para el que no siempre estoy preparado. Porque el cuadro a veces fluye y a veces se estanca.
Estas dos obras son dos ejemplos muy claros de ello. Con "Sa Mesquida", desde que lo empecé hasta que lo dí por acabado, transcurrieron casi 4 años, en los que en mi vida pasaron muchas cosas. En cambio, "El sabio" lo terminé en dos sesiones. Parecía que el pincel tenía vida propia y pintaba solo. Disfruté muchísimo con los dos y son muy especiales para mí.

Between 2007 and 2009 I attended painting classes with Fulgenci Torrents (Genci) and Rafael De la Rica, two well-known teachers on the island. Both artists share a taste for the classical and for the figure, and both practice a realistic style, inspired by nature. From them I learned the love for detail and their classes were moments of calm and exploration at the same time.

Painting, for me, is a very intimate act, which requires concentration and awareness. "Be present", as they say, and for which I am not always prepared. Because the picture sometimes flows and sometimes stagnates. These two works are two very clear examples of this. With "Sa Mesquida", from when I started it until I finished it, almost 4 years passed, in which many things happened in my life. On the other hand, "The Wise Man" I finished in two sessions. It seemed that the brush had a life of its own and painted by itself. I really enjoyed both of them and they are very special to me.
